2. How many treatments are required?

vary depending on the site treated, the severity of the condition,
and the procedure used. The estimated number of treatments will be
discussed with you during your consultation.
3. Will my insurance pay for this?
Treatments such as the ones we administer at Athens
Medical Group are considered cosmetic and not medically necessary.
For this reason, insurance will not pay for these services.
4. Do I have to use your skin care products if I choose to have procedure
done, and can I use them even if I do not have any cosmetic treatments?
It is essential that you practice good skin care at
home in conjunction with any of our in-office procedures (& even
if you elect not to have treatments done presently). We highly recommend
combining your treatments with a comprehensive skin care program such
as ours. You will obtain the best results by properly pre-treating
your skin and by applying advanced repair & hydrating products
after your procedure. Even if you do not opt for treatments, regular
use of Glytone products will help make your skin to appear fresher,
younger & feel smoother!
5. How much does it cost?
The price of each treatment depends on what procedure
you are having performed, what area is being treated, and the severity
of the condition. Free consultations are available so that we can
assess your situation and instruct you on the prices at that time.
6. Will I have to take off work any after the treatments?

9. What is a photorejuvenation?
Photorejuvenation is a type of laser procedure that
progressively and effectively rejuvenates and improves the quality
with no downtime. During these treatments, one can expect to see their
skin becoming smoother with a decrease in fine lines and wrinkles,
reduction in pore size, fading of pigmented areas, and reduction in
facial veins. Each treatment stimulates collagen production and promotes
growth of healthy new skin cells resulting in vibrant, well-nourished
skin. A series of approximately 5 treatments are performed at 3 weeks
intervals for maximum results. Photorejuvenation can be done on any
part of the skin, being especially effective for improving the appearance
of the face, neck, chest, and hands.
10. What does a laser treatment feel like?
You may experience a minor, but tolerable degree of
discomfort similar to a sting or pinch during your treatment depending
on the area treated. It does subside quickly. A mild burning sensation
may last up to an hour, also depending on what is being treated.
11. Are there any restrictions on activity after treatment?
That is the remarkable benefit of these treatments -
there is no downtime!! Patients are able to resume most routine activities
immediately. Make-up may be applied immediately post-procedure. As
always, sun exposure should be limited.
12. How does Vasculight treat veins & other vascular
lesions (port wine stains, rosacea, hemangiomas)?
It operates on the principle of selective photophermolysis
using intense pulsed light and intense pulsed laser to penetrate vessels.
Light is selectively absorbed by the blood in the target vessel &
converted into heat energy, thus raising the blood temperature high
and inducing the eventual destruction of the vessel wall with minimal
effect on the surrounding tissue.
13. How does it treat pigmented lesions (freckles, sun spots, age
spots, birthmarks)?
The Vasculight uses non-coherent intense pulsed light
to target and fully fragment the unwanted pigmented cells into minute
particles that are disposed of through the body's immune system, thereby
removing lesions without damaging or scarring surrounding healthy
skin tissue.
14. How does the light remove hair?
Vasculight uses intense pulsed light to eliminate unwanted
hair of all colors from all parts of the body. When the pigment found
in the hair follicle, hair shaft, or the bulb absorbs the light, it
raises their temperature to a high enough level to destroy it and
stunt hair growth.
15. Who is not a candidate for laser therapy?
- those with a history of abnormal response to sunlight
- those taking photosensitizing or blood thinning medications
- those on Accutane
- those who are pregnant
- those with suspicious moles or skin lesions
- those with persistent, unrealistic expectations
- those currently sun tanned
16. Are there any side effects?
Short-term side effects are minimal but possible. The most common
is slight reddening of the skin. Others, which are possible but unlikely,
include: Initial darkening of pigmented areas, temporary swelling,
hyper/hypo pigmentation, bruising, and/or scarring.
